The Transportation Research Board’s Standing Committee on Landscape and Environmental Design (AKD40) will hold our mid-year meeting June 26-29, 2022, at the Schoodic Institute at Acadia National Park in Winter Harbor, Maine. Registration is now open!
All Committee members and friends are encouraged to attend the AKD40 2022 Mid-Year Workshop. The Schoodic Institute is about 1.25 hours from Bangor, 3.5 hours from Portland, and 5.5 hours from Boston.
We will conduct Committee business and will learn of the region’s rich transportation history and current best practices from the area’s transportation leaders. Tuesday’s learning sessions will focus on Coastal Maine’s transportation infrastructure needs and the resulting multimodal solutions that are satisfying the needs of Acadia National Park and the Bold Coast. Tours of the new transportation system at Acadia National Park, the Schoodic Byway, and local complete streets projects are anticipated.
The Committee will complete current TRB assignments and work products to prepare for the January 2023 Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.
Here is our tentative schedule:
- June 26: AKD40 members arrival; 6 pm dinner and evening business meeting
- June 27: AKD40 business meeting
- June 28: Learning sessions and Field reviews to Bold Coast project sites and Scenic Byways
- June 29: AKD40 business meeting; adjourn at noon
Space is limited, so those interested in attending should register directly with the Schoodic Institute.
All who are interested in the work of the committee are also encouraged to become a “Friend of the AKD40 Committee.” To do so, just create a user ID and log in to MyTRB and sign up as a “Friend” of the committee to receive correspondence and updates, and to begin participating. Go to Committees on the menu bar, then select Become a Friend of the Committee.
You may also express your interest in joining as a formal member of the committee. Each committee has a required turnover of one-third of its members every three years, and committee members may not continue for more than three consecutive three-year terms if other individuals wish to join. As a result, opportunities to join occur at least every three years (or more often, for many committees).
For detailed information on involvement with TRB Committee activities, visit the TRB Committee page.
