Continue Your Practice Management Education with SKILL | ED

The deadline to submit your application to ASLA’s three-month SKILL | ED Workshop is Tuesday, February 28, 2023.

SKILL | ED offers a wide cross-section of landscape architecture professionals the practice management education that is not always gained in day-to-day work.

ASLA’s ongoing SKILL | ED programming kicked off in June 2021 with a three-day virtual practice management program, during which more than 400 landscape architecture professionals and students came together to invest in their career development. 20 sessions from SKILL | ED 2021, highlighting skills crucial to career growth, are available on-demand via ASLA Online Learning, covering topics from business development, marketing, and professional contracts to billable rates, construction administration, and effective team collaboration.

This multi-course virtual learning experience provides the tools practitioners need to build their leadership capacity, add value to their firm, and develop transferable business development skills.

SKILL | ED continued in 2022 with a second three-day virtual learning experience, this time with a project management focus, and a new workshop for emerging business owners and business development professionals, offered in the spring.

ASLA is now seeking applicants for the second edition of the SKILL | ED Workshop: Thoughtful Connections and Growing Impact. The deadline to submit your application is Tuesday, February 28, 2023.

This three-month SKILL | ED workshop series coaches professionals on how to build business relationships with purpose and intention. At the end of the workshop, you will have clear direction on how to create a business development plan, client engagement strategies to increase your project backlog, and the tools you need to create an accountability plan to keep you (or your team) on task.

The workshop will offer a blended curriculum for three modules over a three-month period, including a mix of virtual facilitation, self-paced learning, and action-learning projects.

Up to 15 participants will be selected by the ASLA SKILL | ED Practice Management Institute Committee via application review.

The workshop will be facilitated by Emily Henry, ASLA, founder of Connect For, a business development consulting and coaching firm. With 17 years of experience, Emily leverages her relationships, communication skills, and expertise to partner with owners and emerging business development to grow their business, impact, and influence. Emily is also the Director of Business Development at Studio Outside, a landscape architectural practice based in Dallas, TX.
